🔥 About the Lightning Creek Fire

As of August 14, 2025, the Lightning Creek Fire, ignited by lightning on July 30, has burned more than 2,400 acres in steep, rugged country north of Clark Fork, Idaho near the Montana border. Fire crews continue working to contain it, battling heavy fuels left by the 2018 Cougar Fire—massive fallen trees, dry brush, and dense understory that remains dangerously flammable even after rain.

Despite recent cooler temperatures, fire behavior remains stubborn, with active smoldering beneath thick duff layers and slow-creeping fire along ridgelines. Strong winds and dry weather are expected to continue.

This fire reminds us that landscapes don’t heal on their own. They need help—and we’re ready to give it.
