NRTP Board Meeting #2 Minutes - 3/9/26

Attendees:

Emily Strizich (Chair), Kenny Markwadt (Vice Chair), Nick Bandy, Leo

Schmeltzer(Treasurer), Greg Williams, Ryan Zimmer, Ben Nachlas (Secretary)

The meeting opened with a review of the last meeting’s minutes. A motion was made to adopt these minutes; it was unanimously voted to adopt.

Meeting minutes are currently posted on the NRTP Blog section (https://www.northernrockiestrailproject.org/blog/board-meeting-minutes-2926) of the website.

NRTP’s official “elevator pitch” was discussed.

We agreed upon the slogan: “Protecting access, building the future.”

Emily updated the Board with current projects.

First, the Selkirk Crest Hut System, has been placed on hold at present.

Work at Canfield and the USFS is slated to commence on April 15. We currently have approximately 25 people who have completed the onboarding process and are ready to be deployed once weather is favorable.

NRTP is waiting to hear back from the State on the Hoodoo Lease. Once we get the green light, Greg will visit the site and flag the area to be developed.

Volunteer Days have been proposed and can be viewed on the NRTP calendar. This calendar will be maintained and accessible through the NRTP website. Currently available here:

Kenny provided an update on our Social Media strategy. He is working to feature individual Board members and highlight their stories and connection to the Project. These will be posted to our Instagram and Facebook pages.

Nick discussed progress with our merchandise. He is working with Sandcreek Custom Wear to obtain pricing and designs for various types of merchandise. At this time, we plan to have both NRTP and Notorious DIG represented through hats, shirts, and stickers.

Nacho provided an update on website details. He is currently working on building out the Notorious DIG site as well as updating the NRTP page. In the short term, NRTP will be updated to better define specific pages and an accurate calendar. Future plans include a total site rebuild. We also plan to obtain .com extensions for both sites in addition to .org suffixes.

Leo shared printed copies of the SOPs that he has developed and solicited for feedback on the content. These include:

  • Volunteer Work Day Safety Information

  • Trail Work Safety Procedures

  • Youth Participant Liability Release

  • Adult Volunteer Liability Release

  • Job Hazard Analysis

Discussion followed surrounding volunteer trail work days. Nick brought up the idea of expanding training beyond our organization to see if it could be offered to the public. These opportunities will be added to the NRTP website calendar to gauge public interest.

Specific planned volunteer trail work days are being formalized and will be shared via the NRTP public calendar. It was agreed that having Board Member presence at these days would be beneficial and Members will check the calendar to see which days they can attend in support.

We conversed about ways to link local communities through multi-use recreation trails and the opportunities and challenges that could be faced through these goals.

The Board reviewed action items and planned its next meeting for one month out on Monday April 9th.

A motion to adjourn was seconded and approved.
